The Brat Pack

Back in 2006, I started a blog to post tummy pictures of my cat for Lisaviolet's tummy tuesdays. Sometime soon after I started, I came across another blogger who had 5 dogs. I had 5 cats and I thought that was a funny coincidence. I loved her blog and her dogs immediately. They were the Five Happy Hounds aka The Brat Pack. I followed her blog, reading her many entries and loving the pictures. Her original five happy hounds were Tucker, Dakota, Thrawn, Samantha and Dot. It was almost comical when she went on a trip because I don't think any of the dogs were NOT on medicine so a dog sitter had a long list of carefully written instructions. Then in 2007 she lost Dakota. It was sudden and heartbreaking. Beautiful Thrawn followed later that same year. I don't think I can ever look at red ink or flour the same way again. He was quite a character. Between the losses of Dakota and Thrawn, the big lover Bear joined the pack. The pack then took in a cute little brown husky named Durango in early 2008 and within days he became seriously ill with Parvo. Despite a valiant fight, little Durango joined Dakota and Thrawn. Can the heart stand so many losses? Little Millie, a senior terrior mix, and goofy, handsome Rulon joined the pack in 2008. All was relatively well until 2010 when sweet Tucker joined his brothers. Adorable, slobbering, Otis joined the pack at the end of 2010. I hadn't been keeping up with the pack's blog in the last year as well as I should have. I found out about Tucker quite a while after he passed and now I've just found out that Millie and Dot are gone as well. My heart is breaking for their mom tonight. The only pack member left from the original five is Samantha of the short legs and long ears. She's the only girl now with Rulon, Otis and Bear. Bear had a scare on the heals of the back to back losses of Dot and Millie, but I think he's on the mend from serious ear infections. Poor fellow and his poor mom. I am thinking of all the pack, past and present and knowing those that have gone now are waiting at the bridge for current and future pack members to join and one day there will be a loud racket of barking as their human gets to join them again. I sure hope that's a long way off! But it gives us animal lovers peace to know we'll see our babies again some day. Love you Pack!
